Serving the Tamil Community, Coast to Coast

A volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) uniting American Tamils through education, culture, and charitable relief.

About Us

When the world shut down in 2020, AmChaTS was already moving. Volunteers coordinated family support across state lines, distributed free face masks, and ran a medical help helpline so that no one in the American Tamil community had to face the crisis alone. That kind of action, fast and rooted in real relationships, is what this Glastonbury-based organization has built its reputation on.

Founded as a registered 501(c)(3) public charity, AmChaTS is entirely volunteer-run, with chapters spanning the United States. The mission covers three pillars: charitable relief, cultural preservation, and education. From flood relief assistance to hunger programs to mental health support initiatives, the work addresses genuine need rather than ceremony.

What makes AmChaTS distinct is the thread connecting all of it: a community that shows up. Volunteers here earn recognition through the President's Volunteer Service Award program, a federal certification that reflects the seriousness of the commitment. With a perfect five-star rating across its reviews, the organization has clearly earned the trust it carries.

What We Offer

Avvaiyar Padasalai, the organization's virtual Tamil school, gives children across the country a structured path to learn and love their language. Instructors engage students through interactive storytelling, riddles, and creative exercises, and families have watched kids go from beginner readers to original Tamil storytellers.

Beyond the classroom, AmChaTS runs Tamil spirituality programs and children's cultural programs that keep heritage alive for a generation growing up far from Tamil Nadu. On the charitable side, the organization has delivered hunger relief, flood assistance, and Kabasura Kudineer and Tulsi plant distribution to community members in need.

Anyone who wants to contribute can join through the membership program or apply to volunteer directly. AmChaTS is open every day of the year, around the clock, because community need does not follow a business schedule.

"AmChaTS helped my family during the crisis. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was stuck in Tamilnadu since I couldn’t fly back to the US. I was worried about my family’s health as they were alone in the US. Fortunately, AmChaTS was able to bring Kaba Sura kudineer to my family on time, which gave me some relief. They are serving Tamils in refugee camps in Tamilnadu by providing food. They are also conducting free online classes for Tamil kids in the US. They have opened up COVID helpline too, which is a timely service that is of great importance. They are doing an excellent service to the Tamil community overall. I support their mission, and I wish them good luck. Thanks for your help, AmChaTS Team. Special thanks to Vasanth !!"

"A non profit organization who co ordinates and conducts multiple tamil teaching programs. All the volunteers have been so kind and takes tremendous efforts to teach the kids. My son has completed his one year of Avvaiyar padasalai & Kanmani kadha kelu season 3 programs and we observe his tamil eloquence has been increased drastically. He loves all of his tamil classes and his teachers (Niranjan Atthai, Geetha Atthai, Roshan Atthai & every volunteer). Thank you Amchats"

"My son was attending kathikelu with Dharani. She engages kids very well throughout the session with interactive questions, stories and riddles. He enjoyed a lot and started creating own stories in Tamil and narrate them in kathikelu. He is very much interested in attending it and kept on asking me when it will start again."
